Bill Fender, CPA, J.D., RF™, Principal, Director

Bill is a Principal of Innovest Portfolio Solutions LLC. He has over 25 years of experience in financial services. He is a member of Innovest’s Investment Committee, which makes decisions on investment related research and due diligence. In addition to investment consulting, Bill is responsible for ongoing analysis of fiduciary issues for Innovest clients. He has served as an expert witness in litigation involving fiduciary investment responsibilities, the Uniform Prudent Investor Act, and the Employee Retirement and Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). He is also the Chief Compliance Officer at Innovest.
A Certified Public Accountant (Colorado) and an attorney (Ohio), Bill is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is an active member of the Colorado Society of CPA’s Personal Financial Planning Committee and the Litigation Support Committee. Additionally, Bill has earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary Auditor (AIFA) designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies, which operates in association with the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business Center for Executive Education. Bill is a Registered Fiduciary™. The designation is based on the 2010 Fiduciary Standards of the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies and validated by Dalbar, Inc., an independent expert. Bill served on the Regis University Planned Giving Council and the Planned Giving Advisory Council of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, an internationally prominent research and clinical hospital.
He has a B.A. in Accounting from Ohio University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Dayton. Bill earned his Juris Doctor, with honors, from George Washington University Law School.
Bill has been a frequent lecturer and author on investment, tax and fiduciary related topics. He has authored and presented numerous continuing professional education seminars for Certified Public Accountants and Attorneys. Bill’s articles have been published in The Journal of Investing, The Journal of Financial Planning, The Journal of Private Portfolio Management, Financial Consultant, Personal Financial Planning, The Private Market Report, Senior Consultant, The Monitor (Investment Management Consultants Association), NewsAccount (Colorado Society of CPA’s), The CPA Journal, Nonprofit Colorado (Colorado Association of Nonprofit Organizations), Ticker, Registered Representative and Fiduciary Focus.
