According to an August survey, near-term U.S. business conditions appear to be "bumping along a line that is distressingly close to recession." The monthly survey is conducted by professional services firm Tatum of its executive and consulting professionals regarding current business and economic conditions in a variety of industries.
The most recent report indicated that businesses are hearing more stories that anxious bank regulators are requiring banks to call loans, curtail credit and raise underwriting standards. Businesses are increasingly concerned about the availability of credit for all but the most credit-worthy borrowers.
