Retail Sales and the Stock Market

In his latest weekly commentary, Whaton Professor Jeremy Sigel states that "there is usually a fairly good correlation between stock prices and year-end retail sales." While investors' recent 401(k) statements were dismal, stable food and gas prices and a higher stock market bode well for retail sales in the final quarter of 2011.
