Nonprofit Spotlight: University of Mary

At the University of Mary, faith is not simply part of campus life. It is the foundation. Established in 1959 by the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery, this Catholic university in Bismarck, North Dakota, exists to cultivate both the mind and the soul. Rooted in the Christian tradition and guided by Benedictine values, the University of Mary forms students to pursue truth, grow in virtue, and live lives of meaningful service to God and others.

Daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, campus ministry programs, and faith centered residence life create a rhythm of prayer and community that shapes the student experience. The Christian life is not treated as an addition to academics. It is woven into classrooms, conversations, and leadership development. Students are encouraged to grow in virtue, seek truth with humility, and discern how God is calling them to serve.

Service flows naturally from this foundation. Through local outreach, mission trips, healthcare clinical service, and volunteer initiatives, students learn that professional excellence and Christian discipleship belong together. Benedictine values such as hospitality, respect for people, and love of learning guide both academic rigor and compassionate action.

At the University of Mary, students graduate prepared for successful careers in nursing, business, education, engineering, and beyond, and for lives of faithful leadership and service to others. Faith shapes their purpose, and service becomes a lifelong calling. For more information on the University of Mary, please visit their website at: www.umary.edu.
