Paul Nacario, AIF®

Principal

Paul is a Principal at Innovest. He is responsible for Business Development, and he also serves as a Consultant. Paul has 33 years of experience in the defined contribution retirement marketplace. He is a member of Innovest’s Retirement Plan Practice Team, which identifies best practices and implements process improvements to maximize efficiencies for our retirement plan clients. He offers a unique perspective on the complexities of retirement plans having worked on the plan provider side of the marketplace. Paul is experienced in plan administration and recordkeeping, participant education, retirement plan design, Request for Proposal (RFP) process management, fee negotiation, investment portfolio construction, compliance testing, and fiduciary training.

Before joining Innovest, Paul worked for plan providers focusing on business development, including Nationwide, Hartford, and Charles Schwab. Paul graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and has passed the FINRA Series 7, 63, and 65 exams. In 2019, Paul earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation, having completed this course of study. He uses his expertise to ensure that Innovest institutional clients follow a prudent investment process utilizing the Uniform Fiduciary Standards of Care.

Paul has been involved in the National Association of Government-Defined Contribution Administrators (NAGDCA) for over 20 years. In 2022, Paul was elected to the NAGDCA Industry Committee where he will serve a six-year appointment with the final two years serving on NAGDCA’s Executive Board. In 2018, Paul played a vital role in establishing the Arizona Defined Contribution Conference (AZ/DC). AZ/DC provides Arizona public sector plan sponsors with an avenue to stay abreast of industry best practices and also functions as an additional source of education. Paul is involved with the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), the National Association of Counties (NaCO), the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Western Pension & Benefits Council, California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO), TEXPERS, International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP,) and the National League of Cities (NLC).

Paul resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has been married to his wife Kathy for 25 years. They have one son, Brandon who is a college student at Barett Honors College at Arizona State University.  In his free time, Paul loves to play golf and practice hot yoga.
